AECON – Aecon Group Inc. is looking for a Survey Manager to lead survey teams on new and upcoming civil projects in Calgary. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing survey activities for major infrastructure projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with construction goals.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to survey teams across Calgary‑based projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute survey activities supporting bridge construction and rehabilitation, highway and roadway infrastructure, LRT and transit projects, underground and above‑ground utilities, and Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls.
- Establish, maintain, and verify survey control networks using KRT/RTK GPS systems, total stations, and conventional survey methods.
- Direct and review the completion of layout calculations, construction models, and other digital survey data requirements.
- Set up, calibrate, and support machine control systems (Trimble and Topcon) for earthworks, grading, and paving operations.
- Coordinate machine control models and digital survey data with design, engineering, and construction teams.
- Plan and manage drone flights for monthly construction progress monitoring.
- Ensure survey deliverables meet contractual, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely submission of construction and final as‑built documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Transportation (ATEC) and City of Calgary requirements, standards, and approval processes.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors.
- Proactively identify and mitigate survey‑related risks that could impact productivity or schedule.
- Support Aecon’s commitment to safety, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading and mentoring survey teams on large-scale civil construction projects.
- Expertise in planning and executing survey activities for infrastructure such as bridges, highways, LRT, utilities, and MSE walls.
- Strong proficiency with KRT/RTK GPS systems, total stations, and conventional survey methods.
- Experience with machine control system setup and calibration, specifically Trimble and Topcon.
- Demonstrated ability to manage drone operations for construction monitoring.
- In-depth knowledge of Alberta Transportation (ATEC) and City of Calgary survey standards and approval processes.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors.
- A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks to project productivity and schedule.
