Lead and grow a specialized engineering practice focused on dams and hydraulic structures, driving both technical excellence and strategic expansion. This position plays a central role in advancing the firm’s capabilities in water infrastructure through leadership in project delivery, client engagement, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers across the country to shape and execute a regional business strategy for dam and hydraulic structures projects
- Build relationships with clients and partners, identifying new opportunities and guiding proposal development
- Support recruitment efforts to grow a skilled, multidisciplinary team
- Prepare marketing materials and technical submissions in coordination with internal support teams
- Provide expert oversight on dam safety evaluations, structural analyses, and risk assessments for concrete and embankment dams
- Conduct failure mode analyses, quantitative risk assessments, and rehabilitation planning
- Design and detail structural upgrades for dams, spillways, outlet works, and related infrastructure
- Develop construction documents and provide engineering support during construction phases
- Lead dam safety reviews for water retention and mining structures in compliance with federal and state standards
- Mentor engineers, promote professional development, and contribute to technical training
- Ensure projects meet objectives for quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction
- Travel as needed to project sites, client offices, and industry events
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering and be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE). A minimum of 10 years of experience in dam engineering is required, with preference given to those with 15 or more years. Experience working on multidisciplinary teams and leading field investigations is essential.
Successful candidates will demonstrate proven client management skills, strong communication abilities, and a willingness to travel. A valid U.S. driver’s license and safe driving record are required for business-related travel.
Preferred Experience
- Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering
- Familiarity with regulations from USACE, USBR, FERC, NRCS, and state agencies
- Knowledge of Risk-Informed Decision Making (RIDM) frameworks
- FERC Part 12D Independent Consultant approval
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with current refreshers
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position with office locations across multiple states. The company may allow remote or flexible scheduling based on operational needs. The role requires periodic travel to project sites and client meetings.
