Role OverviewWe are seeking a Civil Engineer to lead on-site execution of highways and infrastructure projects in North Tyneside. This position plays a key role in translating design plans into physical construction, ensuring all work is accurately positioned, safely delivered, and aligned with technical specifications. As a site-based role on a fixed-term contract, you will work directly with delivery teams to maintain quality, precision, and adherence to programme timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform precise setting out in accordance with construction drawings and project specifications
- Transfer design data to field conditions, verifying correct placement and alignment of works
- Provide technical support during construction to maintain accuracy and quality
- Review design documentation and flag potential technical conflicts prior to and during construction
- Maintain accurate records of setting-out data and quality assurance information
- Support planning and scheduling activities to meet project milestones
- Communicate technical details clearly to site crews and supervisory staff
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and promote safe working practices
- Assist in preparing and finalising site records and handover documentation
Required Qualifications
- Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience on highways or civil infrastructure projects, including drainage, paving, or kerbing
- Solid knowledge of setting out methods and construction tolerances
- Ability to plan construction activities and estimate durations to meet delivery goals
- Strong communication skills with experience engaging site teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing and interpreting drawings
- CSCS certification
- SSSTS or equivalent construction safety training
- Full UK driving licence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in site supervision or management roles
- Understanding of material and resource budgeting
- Experience with Microsoft Project for scheduling
- Background working with mixed delivery models, including subcontractors
- First Aid at Work certification
