MIGHTY ALLY is hiring a Strategy Consultant

Classification: independent contractor Duration: 12 months+ Location: remote & from the Global South Rate: $6,250–$8,250/month, commensurate with experience Start date: March 2026 About Mighty Ally Too many nonprofits are unseen, unheard, and underfunded. Only one in 1,000 grows beyond a small business. But more fundraising can’t fix an organization’s funding. To get funding, nonprofits must be fundable and findable. Brand first, funding second. Mighty Ally builds fundable and findable brands that maximize funding. Our proven Fundable/Findable Framework fixes fundraising: theory of change and strategic planning (be fundable), positioning strategy and marketing communications (be findable). We’re a nonprofit hybrid. Our exclusive focus is on the growth and early stage. We’re a catalyst between doers and donors. And we have an unmatched international perspective for a purposefully small team. Our 10-year target is to guide 5,000 bold brands that advance social justice for 500 million people. Learn more at mightyally.org. About the Strategy Consultant We’re an intentionally small and founder-led organization. But we need expert, senior-level support to help shape and guide our deep client work. This Strategy Consultant will work hand-in-hand with the founding partner who oversees our consulting practice for growth-stage organizations. Together, they will guide these brands using the Mighty Ally Fundable/Findable Framework. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES - Leading the development and delivery of our Brand Diagnostic expert audits, plus applying the Fundable/Findable Framework to other Mighty Ally consulting engagements. - Deep diving into a client’s brand to extract opportunities and insights, then make thoughtful recommendations across their theory of change, strategic plan, positioning strategy, and marketing communications. - Facilitating multi-hour workshops with leadership teams, providing on-the-spot input and sector-based wisdom. - Conducting desk research and qualitative analysis to surface landscape-based findings and inform brand strategy. - Supporting client teams in implementing recommendations through coaching sessions. About you SKILLS - Clear, insightful thinking — you’re adept at tying together disparate threads and generating sharp ideas to build brands. - Exceptional communication — you can confidently lead workshops and craft a point of view into a compelling strategy and story. - Strong writing ability — you produce consistent, concise, analytical writing that demonstrates a distinct perspective. - Empathetic listening — you’re gifted at taking in a range of opinions and inputs to develop cohesive deliverables. - Self-starter mindset — you’re biased towards action and pursuing solutions. - Comfort with ambiguity — while we have a clear, proven framework, applying it across our diverse clients isn’t always straightforward. - Nuanced understanding of brand vs. branding — you’re comfortable navigating clients through decisions related to both. - Ease in a fast-paced, high-performing environment — you thrive on juggling multiple priorities, projects, and client profiles. - Belief in brand first, funding second — you're not just a communications person, because you inherently know that a nonprofit must be fundable (with a strong theory of change and strategic plan) before they can move on to being findable (positioning and marketing). EXPERIENCE You have a deep understanding of the social sector and funding landscape for growth-stage nonprofits. You have a strategic consulting background, with experience in creative, comms, or brand-building. You’ve guided organizational leadership teams through challenges or transitions. You are from the Global South (Africa a plus) and live within +/– three hours of East Africa Time. And in particular, you have: - 10+ years of direct experience in a similar role. - 3–5 years of experience working within a brand or social sector consultancy. - Proficiency in the full suite of Google products, a high-level knowledge of design platforms like Canva, and a growing ability to use AI tools wisely. - A sense of urgency that “as long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.' ALIGNMENT WITH OUR CORE VALUES Working with Mighty Ally means being part of a high-functioning team that thrives on determination and excellence. We’re a fighter — taking a stand and saying what needs to be said, no matter how tough the conversation. We’re mindful — aware of our responsibilities and invested in the teams, work, and causes we champion. We have grit — getting shit done using all our means and might. And we consistently deliver excellence — nothing less than quality fit for purpose. About the contract This is a senior independent contractor engagement at a full-time level of commitment. The engagement is 12 months — beginning with a three-month trial period — and time away from work is built into the contract. As a contractor, you are responsible for compliance with all local employment, tax, and work authorization laws in your country of residence, as well as arranging any benefits you may need. About the application Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter using the Apply To Position button above. In your cover letter, include a single, open-ended question that comes to mind after you get to know Mighty Ally’s approach and point of view. We assume you won’t use AI to create a generic cover letter when applying. Because you know this role relies on original, clear-headed thinking and even clearer communication. We’ll be reviewing applications on a rolling basis — so don’t wait!
