Schnabel Engineering is hiring a Staff Geologist

About the Role

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Geologist to join our professional engineering geology team in our Lexington, KY office. You will develop your field and analytical skills while working on critical infrastructure projects as part of a strong, supportive team.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, document, and report the results of geotechnical investigations.
  • Log soil and rock test borings and perform in-situ testing.
  • Install monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Collect laboratory testing samples and perform materials testing.
  • Perform geotechnical instrumentation monitoring.
  • Observe and document geotechnical-related construction.
  • Prepare field reports, investigation work plans, and geotechnical data reports.
  • Create basic plans and figures using GIS, Google Earth, and AutoCAD.
  • Support 3D modeling and design efforts for heavy civil and dam safety projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, or a related Geological Science from an accredited program.
  • Completion of geotechnical or geology-focused undergraduate coursework.
  • 0-3 years of professional experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a desire for continual self-improvement.
  • Ability to multi-task with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geophysics, or a related Geological Science.
  • Prior internship or professional work in a related field (e.g., geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering).
  • Experience using groundwater modeling, Bentley’s OpenGround, Trimble’s SketchUp, Autodesk’s Civil 3D software packages, and/or rock stability/kinematics software.
  • GIT or PG designation.
