Leidos is hiring a Senior Transmission Line Engineer

About the Role

This role involves leading engineering efforts for transmission line projects, including structural analysis, design development, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable and safe electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and design of overhead transmission line systems for utility and infrastructure projects
  • Perform structural analysis of transmission poles, towers, and foundations under various loading conditions
  • Develop project specifications, drawings, and design documentation using industry standards
  • Conduct route studies and evaluate terrain, environmental, and right-of-way constraints
  • Apply NESC, NESC, ASCE, and other applicable codes and regulations in design work
  • Collaborate with survey, environmental, and construction teams to support project execution
  • Prepare and review technical calculations, reports, and engineering deliverables
  • Support permitting and regulatory compliance efforts for transmission projects
  • Utilize software tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and other engineering analysis platforms
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support team development
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and constructability standards
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to schedules and budgets
  • Conduct field inspections and support construction activities as needed
  • Evaluate existing transmission systems for upgrades, reconductoring, or structural reinforcement
  • Assist in the development of construction specifications and bid documents
  • Participate in project planning and scoping activities with project managers
  • Integrate new technologies and materials into transmission line designs
  • Support emergency response and storm restoration efforts when required
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation throughout project lifecycle
  • Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement within project teams
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance and control procedures
  • Work with vendors and subcontractors to resolve technical issues
  • Stay current with industry trends, codes, and regulatory changes
  • Contribute to lessons learned and post-project evaluations
