About the Role
This position leads legal strategy and supervises attorneys focused on challenging hate groups, protecting civil rights, and promoting equitable policies through litigation and public advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex civil litigation targeting hate organizations and extremist activities
- Supervise legal staff and coordinate case strategy across multiple jurisdictions
- Develop and implement long-term legal initiatives to counter extremism
- Collaborate with advocacy teams to influence public policy and legal standards
- Represent the organization in high-profile legal proceedings and media engagements
- Mentor junior attorneys and support professional development within the legal team
- Oversee case selection and prioritize docket based on strategic impact
- Engage with community stakeholders to identify emerging civil rights threats
- Draft legal briefs, motions, and appellate arguments in federal and state courts
- Monitor extremist group activities and assess legal response options
- Build partnerships with national civil rights and legal organizations
- Provide legal expertise on issues related to hate crimes and discriminatory practices
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards and court procedures
- Manage litigation budgets and resource allocation for assigned cases
- Conduct public speaking and legal education on anti-extremism efforts
Nice to Have
- Experience litigating against white supremacist or extremist organizations
- History of public speaking or media engagement on civil rights topics
- Supervisory experience in a legal nonprofit or public interest setting
- Additional state bar admissions
- Background in policy advocacy or legislative reform
