Transport for NSW is hiring a Senior Manager Safety Culture & Strategy, a newly created senior leadership role responsible for transforming safety culture across our organisation and rail agencies. You will shape the future of workplace health and safety at an enterprise level, leading the development of a new three-year WHS strategy and driving a genuinely holistic safety culture.
What You'll Do
- Report to the Executive Director Work Health & Safety (WH&S) within the Safety, Policy, Environment & Regulation division.
- Lead the development of a new three-year WHS strategy across Transport for NSW and its rail agencies.
- Drive a holistic safety culture that encompasses all aspects of the safety domain.
- Lead and develop a team of four WH&S experts, influencing executive leaders across multiple agencies with diverse cultures and varying levels of safety maturity.
- Partner with the People, Culture and Workplace division to embed safety and wellbeing into the broader organisational culture.
- Apply a multidisciplinary lens, drawing on systems thinking, human factors, occupational health, or safety engineering to reduce risk and embed lasting behavioural change.
- Shape the full safety lifecycle, from day-to-day operations and incident management through to long-term strategic planning and continuous improvement frameworks.
What We're Looking For
- Significant senior WH&S leadership experience from an industrial or heavy industry environment (transport, infrastructure, utilities, construction or similar).
- Understanding of high-risk operational realities and expertise extending beyond physical risk management.
- Experience influencing executive level decision making.
- Comfort navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and bringing diverse leadership teams on a shared journey.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- Professional membership of a recognised safety body.
- Strategic thinker energised by the opportunity to build something meaningful.
Nice to Have
- Background grounded in human factors, occupational health, systems engineering or traditional operational safety management.
