Role Overview

This position leads the development and execution of investment strategy for a key segment of the organization’s annuity portfolio, specifically focused on the Matching Adjustment framework. The role plays a central part in aligning investment decisions with regulatory, capital, and risk requirements while supporting long-term financial stability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the formulation and continuous improvement of investment strategies for portfolios subject to Matching Adjustment, ensuring consistency with risk tolerance, liquidity, and capital efficiency goals.
  • Explore and deploy innovative investment and derivative techniques to improve risk-adjusted performance.
  • Partner with external asset managers to expand capabilities into emerging asset classes and enhance portfolio diversification.
  • Engage with finance and commercial teams to ensure investment plans are operationally viable and meet regulatory approval standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must bring substantial experience in investment management within regulated financial institutions, particularly in insurance, asset management, or advisory roles. A professional designation such as FIA, FFA, CFA, or equivalent is required.

Essential knowledge includes asset-liability management, Solvency II or Solvency UK frameworks, and the use of derivatives in annuity portfolios. Strong analytical abilities and experience in communicating complex investment concepts to senior stakeholders are critical. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of leading initiatives independently while contributing effectively within a team environment. Experience acting in a deputy leadership capacity is also valued.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role, based in either Edinburgh or London, with approximately half of working time conducted remotely. The organization supports flexible arrangements to balance productivity and personal needs.
