Canada Hybrid Employment

Deep Sky is hiring a Senior Geologist (CDR/CCS)

About the Role

What You'll Do

Lead detailed geological evaluations of potential CO₂ storage sites, from regional screening to pore-scale analysis, using data-driven methodologies. Conduct subsurface interpretation and modeling with industry-standard software to assess storage potential in both sedimentary basins and crystalline rock systems.

Direct geological mapping initiatives across Canada to locate and rank viable storage formations, including saline aquifers, depleted reservoirs, and mineralization targets. Perform technical assessments to evaluate capacity, injectivity, and long-term containment, incorporating uncertainty analysis into decision-making.

Apply expertise in diverse lithologies to interpret core samples, well logs, and geophysical data in support of drilling and site characterization programs. Contribute to regulatory submissions and feasibility studies for carbon capture and storage hubs, ensuring technical rigor and compliance.

Oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, coordinating internal teams and external contractors. Provide technical leadership on multidisciplinary projects and guide environmental assessments and data acquisition campaigns.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in subsurface geological evaluation
  • Proven experience in core logging, formation evaluation, and data interpretation in sedimentary or hard rock settings
  • Strong background in carbonate and siliciclastic systems or igneous and metamorphic terrains, with direct relevance to CO₂ storage or mineralization
  • Experience in site selection, regional assessments, or multi-project geological studies for energy, mining, or environmental applications
  • Familiarity with tools such as Petrel, RMS, CMG, GeoScout, Kingdom, or Leapfrog
  • Ability to manage complex workflows, communicate across disciplines, and engage with regulators and stakeholders
  • Valid driver’s license and passport; readiness for fieldwork and travel as needed

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
  • Competitive compensation and performance-based growth opportunities
  • Access to ongoing career development and technical training
  • Work on pioneering projects in carbon dioxide removal and storage
  • Collaborative, intellectually rigorous environment that values independent thinking

Work Mode

This is a hybrid role with flexibility for remote work. Candidates must be based in Canada and available for periodic travel to project sites, field locations, and team meetings.
