Role Overview
As a Senior Engineer - Substations, you will lead engineering design initiatives, focusing on feasibility assessments, detailed design development, and cross-team coordination with the WSP UK team. You will play a key role in shaping project outcomes, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with safety regulations, and adherence to quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop feasibility studies in alignment with project requirements and review findings with senior engineering leads
- Collaborate with the WSP UK team to define and finalize design specifications, ensuring compliance with employer expectations and timely delivery
- Establish and manage project scope in consultation with senior engineers, ensuring clarity in design intent and deliverables
- Define functional and structural requirements for substations to support detailed design phases
- Perform complex structural calculations and deliver detailed designs in accordance with WSP and B Regulations, incorporating CDM and QA protocols
- Oversee the preparation and technical review of engineering calculations, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Support cost estimation by providing timely, detailed design inputs and keep stakeholders informed of progress and key decisions
- Prepare documentation for tender packages and ensure completeness and accuracy of technical information
- Respond to daily technical queries from the UK team to support uninterrupted construction planning
- Report discrepancies between as-built works and design specifications in coordination with senior engineers
- Lead the design process, promoting efficient and cost-effective solutions within project timelines
- Ensure strict adherence to document control, archiving, CDM, and QA procedures, and guide junior engineers in their application
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Civil & Structural Engineer in the Energy & Distribution sector, with specific exposure to AIS and GIS substation projects
- Proven ability to manage projects independently, including coordination across disciplines and client interactions
- Proficient in engineering software including Tekla, Robot, STAAD, and experienced in BIM 360 environments
- Strong command of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project
- Fluent in English with a solid grasp of technical engineering terminology
- Holds a B.Tech or M.Tech degree in Structures
- Familiarity with international standards such as American or Euro codes is an advantage
