Lead structural design efforts and contribute to the successful delivery of complex building projects through technical oversight and coordination. This role centers on developing detailed designs in alignment with project requirements, ensuring adherence to CDM, quality assurance, and internal technical standards while maintaining consistent communication with the WSP Canada (CA) Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop feasibility study reports in the required format and coordinate review with senior engineering leadership
- Collaborate with the WSP CA Team to define, structure, and finalize design specifications that meet employer expectations
- Establish and monitor the scope of structural works in consultation with senior engineers
- Clarify building function and performance criteria to support accurate and efficient detailed design
- Perform advanced structural calculations and coordinate design resolution, ensuring full compliance with WSP standards and technical review protocols
- Supervise the preparation and review of engineering calculations, including QA validation and formal sign-off
- Support cost estimation by delivering technically complete and timely design inputs
- Contribute to tender documentation by providing accurate, well-structured technical content within deadlines
- Respond to daily technical inquiries from the WSP CA Team to maintain construction readiness
- Report any deviations between as-built conditions and original design intent in coordination with senior engineers
- Uphold the design process to deliver practical, cost-efficient solutions on schedule
- Ensure full compliance with document control, archiving, CDM, and QA procedures for all project records
- Coach junior engineers in proper use of documentation systems and technical workflows
- Advance team-wide technical capability and promote high standards across all project work
- Build strong working relationships with the WSP CA Team through transparent progress updates and technical clarity
- Participate in team meetings, share critical information, and coordinate across disciplines
- Identify potential risks, initiate corrective actions, or escalate as needed
- Follow company procedures for contracts and commercial management
- Flag opportunities for additional fee recovery in collaboration with senior engineering leads
Required Qualifications
- Proven background in structural design for buildings, with demonstrated experience in a comparable role
- Strong presentation abilities and clear communication in technical contexts
- Proficiency in structural analysis software including RAM Structural Steel, ETABS, SAFE, and STAAD
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project
- Fluency in English with strong command of technical terminology
- Effective management, interpersonal, and technical communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively based on project demands
- Experience mentoring team members and supporting professional development
- Commitment to pursuing chartered engineering status
Preferred Qualifications
- French language proficiency is a valuable asset
