Role Overview
This hybrid position involves ensuring patient and prescriber compliance with Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) programs. The pharmacist will verify enrollment, confirm required conditions are satisfied, and coordinate with prescribers when clarification is needed. Clinical counseling is provided to patients prior to prescription transfer, with a focus on safety and education.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate active enrollment of patients and prescribers in the appropriate REMS program
- Ensure all program-specific requirements are fulfilled before initiating patient contact
- Communicate with prescribers to resolve discrepancies or obtain missing information
- Deliver comprehensive clinical guidance to patients before prescription processing
- Document and report adverse events and other clinical concerns in a timely manner
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, federal and state pharmacy regulations, and internal policies
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a constructive, cooperative attitude
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. and possess an active, unencumbered pharmacist license in Pennsylvania. During the most recent two-year reporting cycle, applicants must have completed 30 hours of ACPE-accredited continuing education.
Required experience includes a minimum of two years in mail order, retail, or specialty pharmacy settings, with direct involvement in REMS programs and in-depth patient counseling. Proficiency with pharmacy software systems, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel), and internet-based tools is essential.
Strong foundational math skills are necessary for calculations involving dosages, conversions, ratios, and percentages. The role demands clear, professional communication in both written and verbal formats, along with the ability to navigate multiple digital platforms efficiently.
