Position Overview We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer with a background in electrical systems to support the design and execution of complex building projects. The ideal candidate will take ownership of electrical design components across a range of sectors, including commercial, industrial, and defense-related construction. This role blends technical expertise with client engagement and requires consistent attention to detail, accuracy, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive electrical designs for lighting, power distribution, and low-voltage systems using Revit and other modeling tools
- Lead design efforts from initial planning through construction documentation and field verification
- Visit project sites to assess existing conditions and collect critical field data
- Coordinate with utility providers and external agencies to ensure system compatibility and compliance
- Prepare detailed technical reports and conduct building evaluations
- Communicate project specifications and design intent clearly to clients and team members
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritizing deadlines and resource needs
- Support cross-disciplinary collaboration to align electrical systems with overall project goals
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and have 5–10 years of practical experience in building systems design. Demonstrated proficiency in full-cycle project development—from concept to construction—is essential. Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IBC, and related standards is required, along with the ability to interpret and apply updates as they are issued.
Strong analytical skills are necessary for load calculations, short-circuit analysis, emergency power systems, and lighting design, including controls and energy efficiency strategies. Experience with low-voltage systems such as data networks, security, and nurse call systems is expected. Candidates should also be comfortable using Microsoft Office for documentation and calculations.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience with power system analysis software such as Power Tools for Windows (PTW) or Easy Power
- Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license or be eligible for licensure
- FE certification or RCCD credential is advantageous
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with approximately 5%–10% field travel for site assessments. Work involves extended periods at a desk using computer systems, as well as occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during site visits.
