The Remote Camp Gym/Fitness Coordinator oversees the daily function of a fitness facility in a remote location in Nunavut. This role ensures the gym remains safe, clean, and accessible to all members while operating under demanding environmental and logistical conditions. The position follows a rotational schedule and requires travel via fly-in/fly-out from Edmonton.
What You'll Do
Provide front-line support by welcoming members and guests, managing check-ins, and assisting with class registrations. Maintain facility standards by cleaning equipment, floors, and washrooms, and ensure supplies are consistently stocked. Monitor gym usage, enforce rules, and respond to safety concerns in real time. Perform routine inspections, document incidents, and support compliance with health, safety, and emergency procedures.
Assist with inventory tracking, supply orders, and recordkeeping for staff certifications. Contribute to reporting by compiling usage data and preparing regular updates. Support onboarding for new team members and help maintain operational procedures. Play an active role in emergency preparedness, including drill coordination and documentation.
Requirements
- Ability to work extended shifts on a rotational basis, such as 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off
- Physical and mental resilience to operate in extreme northern climates with prolonged darkness or severe weather
- Willingness to live in shared accommodations with on-site meals provided
- Capacity to adapt to isolation and limited external contact during rotations
- Reliable attendance and compliance with all safety, health, and operational policies
- Ability to travel to Nunavut via scheduled flights, including managing delays due to weather
- Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening as part of employment
- Flexibility to travel to other project sites across Canada when needed
