NYU Langone Health is hiring a Registered Nurse Instructor to join our team. You will be responsible for the orientation of new nursing staff, teaching required courses, providing in-service training, and developing educational programs based on staff needs and performance management. Critical Care experience is required for this role.
What You'll Do
- Participate in planning and analysis of educational programs based on evidence-based standards to meet new nursing staff needs.
- Provide teaching instructions to new staff while assessing and evaluating staff competency during orientation.
- Confer with the Director of Nursing Education regarding new hire competency and submit post-orientation evaluations.
- Meet regularly during orientation with orientees, preceptors, and the Nurse Manager to review progress and set objectives.
- Participate in on-going competency assessment of nursing staff and identify educational needs in collaboration with nursing leadership.
- Plan and teach both formal and informal education to promote safety and quality based on The Joint Commission, state requirements, and performance management issues.
- Serve as a consultant and resource to nursing staff in interpreting policy, procedure standards, and evidence-based practices.
- Create spreadsheets, reports, and templates for Site Leadership.
- Include age-specific considerations in all educational content.
- Complete and maintain attendance sheets, program evaluations, quarterly reports, and staff evaluations.
- Review and revise Instructor and Nursing Education orientation manuals, including class content outlines.
- Serve as the site's timekeeper, maintaining accurate records of all employees' work hours, vacation, and sick time.
- Initiate and facilitate Engineering work requests and report site-related operational issues.
- Order all required administrative and medical supplies for the site, initiating Purchasing Orders.
- Take meeting minutes for monthly staff meetings and Labor Management meetings.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree required.
- Four to five years of recent full-time Nursing experience required.
- Two to three years of recent experience in the respective specialty (i.e., Critical Care, Maternal Child, Perioperative).
- Demonstrated patient care competency.
- Previous involvement in orientation processes and preceptorship or internship programs.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the teaching-learning process.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development.
- Licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Valid Registered Nurse License in NYS.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in Nursing Education.
- Four to five years of recent full-time Nursing experience with teaching experience preferred.
- Two to three years of recent Critical Care experience.
- CTICU experience preferred.
- Teaching Experience preferred.
