The City of Lynwood is looking for a Recreation Leader I to join our team. Under general supervision, you will assist in delivering recreation programs and participate in organizing special events, serving as a playground leader, locker room attendant, youth official, or in other related capacities.
What You'll Do
- Organize, conduct, and supervise free play and team activities for adults and children in outdoor and indoor play areas.
- Assist in preparing ball fields, officiating games, and instructing on the fundamentals of play and sports conduct.
- Organize and conduct non-athletic events and programs.
- Instruct and supervise arts and crafts and day care programs and organize club activities.
- Keep records and prepare written reports.
- Supervise overall activities of playgrounds and other sites, monitoring participants to ensure rules and regulations are followed.
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Maintain dressing room areas and check in and out customer clothing and personal belongings.
- Clean pool areas and recreation facilities including rooms, floors, and restrooms.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of programs common to recreation, sports, and aquatics.
- Knowledge of first-aid techniques.
- Knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using recreational facilities.
- Ability to create, implement, and monitor games and team activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
- Ability to submit oral and written reports.
- Ability to work various hours on a year-round and/or seasonal basis, including weekends.
- Ability to understand and adhere to program safety requirements and regulations.
- Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within one month of hire.
Nice to Have
- Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.
- Example combinations include some experience and/or participation in team or individual sports, recreation programs, or service as a leader or volunteer in organizations such as scouting, AYSO, Little League, or recreation departments.
Team & Environment
You will assist higher-level Recreation Leaders in delivering programs and services.
