Louis Dreyfus Company is looking for a Rail Trader responsible for the rail origination and logistics management of grains and oilseeds for our export terminals and processing assets. You will play a key role in sourcing product, optimizing supply chains, and executing strategic trades.
What You'll Do
- Originate grain and oilseeds from interior rail terminals.
- Communicate daily with the country network to drive information flow and strengthen customer relationships.
- Optimize rail and port/vessel logistics through coordination with the Kansas City rail team.
- Identify and execute arbitrage opportunities to maximize logistics value.
- Work with US product line traders to develop and implement regional premium positioning strategy.
- Ensure positions are accurately reflected and tie P&L daily.
- Stay abreast of market developments, ensuring timely group updates and interpretation of market data.
- Coordinate information flow between departments to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Compose market wires, position updates, track lineups, and vessel lineups as necessary.
- Participate in customer visits, industry social events, and company acreage and yield tours.
- Use historical information to analyze pricing trends and project forward market pricing outlook.
- Ensure contracts are entered the day of trade and fills/settlements are completed timely.
- Learn and utilize CINCH and other internal application software.
- Gather news, statistics, and supply/demand information from customers and trade sources, and distribute it to support strategic trading.
- Process a variety of information and data to devise and execute trading strategies.
- Negotiate with trade counterparts to maximize corporate returns.
- Advise on trading strategies, assess buying and selling risks, and negotiate contract terms with clients.
- Prioritize work schedules to meet deadlines and continuously adjust priorities to resolve unexpected issues.
What We're Looking For
- Five or more years of experience in an agribusiness firm in a merchandising or trading capacity.
- Thorough understanding of grain markets, basis trading, and rail logistics.
- Three or more years of direct position ownership and experience with logistics management.
- Demonstrated strong negotiating skills and commercial understanding combined with a results orientation.
- Capability to consolidate global and domestic market drivers into a point of view and executable trading strategy.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to select relevant information from a flow of information.
- Demonstrated ability to manage trading, logistics, and execution risks.
- Extensive knowledge of the U.S. transportation systems, relationships with major transportation providers, and a good working knowledge of grain trading and transportation.
- Knowledge of railroad logistics specifically and vessel logistics preferably.
- Knowledge of demurrage/despatch concepts.
- Familiarity with current commodity transportation issues.
- Proficiency with MS Excel, database administration, and online systems/websites.
- Knowledge of fundamentals of grain accounting, basis/flat price trading, and futures markets.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Agriculture, Economics, or a related discipline.
