Unknown Company is hiring a Police Dispatcher, 40 hours, Mixed Shift

About the Role

UMass Memorial Health is looking for a Police Dispatcher to join our Public Safety department. This role is central to our safety operations, responsible for monitoring and responding to emergency communications to dispatch appropriate personnel and resources.

What You'll Do

  • Utilize closed circuit television monitors and dispatch center equipment to monitor safety and law enforcement conditions.
  • Identify unauthorized activity or problematic situations and dispatch police officers to investigate.
  • Monitor fire, public safety alarms, and card access systems, dispatching personnel to problem sites.
  • Operate a two-way radio communications system to dispatch officers to calls in their coverage area.
  • Initiate emergency calls and utilize the paging system as necessary.
  • Report questionable conditions to supervisor, Police Sergeant, or others as appropriate.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and computer-based equipment for data entry and retrieval.
  • Basic use of word processing programs.
  • Excellent telephone communications and customer relation skills.
  • Flexibility to be temporarily re-assigned to any other site in the system.
  • A high degree of accuracy and alertness in dispatching police personnel.
  • Must maintain a calm demeanor and composure in responding to crisis situations.
  • Must undergo both a Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and FBI criminal fingerprint-based background check.

Nice to Have

  • 6-12 months of related office, clerical, or administrative support experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of paid or verifiable full-time equivalent volunteer experience as a dispatcher in a police or fire department, EMS or ambulance agency.

Team & Environment

You will be part of the Public Safety department (Cost Center 10030 - 5170 Public Safety). You will report questionable or problematic conditions to your supervisor or a Police Sergeant.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: $19.78 - $27.49 per hour.
  • This position may have a signing bonus available.

This is an onsite position.
