Transport for London (TfL) is looking for an experienced Planning Lawyer to join its Property and Planning Law Team. In this role, you will provide legal counsel on major developments, transport infrastructure projects, and planning policy across London for TfL, the Mayor, the Greater London Authority, and the Mayor’s Development Corporations.
What You'll Do
- Advise on major developments across London for TfL, the Mayor, the Greater London Authority, and the Mayor’s Development Corporations.
- Advise the Mayor on his London Plan and in his strategic planning role making decisions on major developments.
- Advise on all aspects of Town & Country planning law, highways law, major infrastructure and other projects alongside planning policy development.
- Work on major transport infrastructure projects, advising on consenting regimes such as Transport and Works Act Orders, Compulsory Purchase Orders and Development Consent Orders.
- Manage external legal providers and optimize relationships with leading external law firms.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to the business on complex cases, managing risk and handling sensitive matters.
What We're Looking For
- Degree level education or equivalent.
- Qualified UK solicitor or barrister (or equivalent jurisdiction qualification), or an unqualified practitioner with substantial relevant experience.
- Significant expertise in at least one of the following areas: planning; compulsory purchase; property development; infrastructure projects.
- Ability to manage external legal providers.
- Strong project management capability and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and legal analysis skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience within the public sector or a regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of the TfL/GLA landscape and wider planning/housing/regeneration/infrastructure/commercial property sectors.
- For property development role: Experience of the public procurement of projects and developments around complex infrastructure.
