St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is hiring a Patent Portfolio Manager to oversee docketing and prosecution processes for our intellectual property portfolio. In this role, you will protect the discoveries that fuel our lifesaving research for children worldwide, ensuring our innovations are secured through meticulous patent management.
What You'll Do
- Manage the docket and patent prosecution processes for St. Jude's intellectual property.
- Prepare, review, and file patent applications and supporting documentation, including Provisional, Non-Provisional, Design, PCT, and US National Stage filings.
- Coordinate international patent filings, ensuring compliance with country-specific requirements.
- Prepare and file supporting documents such as responses to Office Actions, Issue Fee Transmittals, and Information Disclosure Statements (IDS).
- Review all incoming correspondence from the USPTO, WIPO, and international associates regarding application status.
- Ensure accuracy of information and file necessary documents to correct any errors.
- Maintain and update IDS charts, portfolio spreadsheets, and internal docket reports.
- Prepare and deliver regular status updates and reports on applications and patents.
- Send reminders to attorneys, international counsel, and internal personnel regarding deadlines and required actions.
- Manage case and file management, including uploading communications to docketing and DMS systems.
- Maintain and update files, portals, and internal databases.
- Attend status meetings and coordinate project management for multiple high-tech IP cases and portfolios.
- Perform research and compile data to support patent prosecution efforts and strategic decisions.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Health Care Administration, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of USPTO, PCT, and international patent rules and procedures.
- Proven performance in an earlier role with 6+ years of experience in a legal or risk management setting.
- Proficient in filing with the USPTO and ePCT systems.
- Familiarity with Sequence Listings and Chemical Formulas.
- Strong understanding of IP docketing systems and deadlines, including experience maintaining secondary dockets.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with inventors, counsel, USPTO personnel, and vendors.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines.
- Robust administrative and management skills to handle tasks for multiple, high-tech IP cases.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Juris Doctorate degree with 3+ years of relevant experience is an acceptable alternative.
- Three (3) years of direct experience as a patent paralegal in intellectual property practice required.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in an academic or health care setting.
- Experience with CPi docketing software.
- Paralegal Certification and/or an Intellectual Property specialty certificate.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: $86,320 - $154,960 per year.
