Role Overview
This position involves conducting technical procedures on laboratory animals including mice, rats, rabbits, canines, and non-human primates in support of preclinical research. The technician ensures all activities follow established protocols and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, contributing to accurate data collection and animal well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized procedures such as clinical observations, body weight measurements, blood collection, dose administration, anesthesia delivery, and euthanasia in accordance with study protocols.
- Follow written and verbal instructions including SOPs, study schedules, and protocol requirements.
- Record, enter, and verify raw data from animal studies, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
- Prepare equipment and supplies for procedures and maintain organized work areas.
- Operate laboratory instruments such as glucometers, digital thermometers, and Harvard pumps.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any changes or environmental issues promptly.
- Support facility operations through routine husbandry tasks and environmental checks.
- Contribute to the development and revision of standard operating procedures related to animal care and technical practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in English to interpret technical documents and complete routine reports.
- Basic mathematical skills for data interpretation and measurement calculations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a dynamic setting.
- Effective problem-solving abilities when working with variable conditions.
- Capacity to follow instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Reliable communication with team members and supervisors at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field.
- Prior experience in animal research or a regulated laboratory environment.
- ALAT certification or equivalent training.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Access, InfoPath, and Project.
