About the Role

Oklahoma Virtual Academy (OVCA), a Stride K12 partner school, is hiring a Middle School Special Education Teacher. This is a full-time, remote position for a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering course content in an online environment. The teacher provides instruction and manages the learning process for students with individual needs, working from home with occasional travel for school functions.

What You'll Do

  • Take ownership for students’ academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations.
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Conduct a minimum of 15 hours of live synchronous teaching per week.
  • Asynchronously support objectives by planning, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, and interventions.
  • Be open and available to be coached regularly by administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Augment course content under guidance using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Submit grades and required student work, maintain grade books, and generate reports on student progress.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families through regular communication.
  • Support learning coaches and parents with curricular, instructional, and technical issues.
  • Assist with the set-up and maintenance of the student learning environment, including basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure student success.
  • Respond to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Organize social and educational activities, such as virtual clubs, outings, and marketing events.

What We're Looking For

  • Appropriate current Special Education Oklahoma teaching license or proof of application.
  • Must be a resident of Oklahoma.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to interpret student data and use it to drive instructional decisions.
  • Receptive to receiving regular coaching from administrators.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for professional development, testing, and school requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, distraction-free home office during the workday.

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align them with K12 curriculum.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and a high level of organization.
  • Understanding of project interdependencies and ability to act to preserve others' deadlines.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification and fluency in K12 systems.
  • Ability to clear required background checks.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching in online and/or brick-and-mortar settings.
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative, Newrow, or other online platforms.

  • Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the salary range.

This is a fully remote position open to residents of Oklahoma.
