K12, a Stride Company, is hiring a Middle School Special Education Teacher for the Alabama Destinations Career Academy (ALDCA). You will be a state-certified educator responsible for delivering personalized, online instruction and ensuring students with special needs receive all services outlined in their IEPs. Your role focuses on instruction, support, and close collaboration with students, parents, and learning coaches to guide the learning process.
What You'll Do
- Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team.
- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure students receive appropriate therapies.
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-required special education documentation.
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings such as annual IEP reviews.
- Use provided resources to implement accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
- Ensure the inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
- Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
- Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Maintain the grade book, make student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches.
- Support learning coaches with student curricular, instructional issues, and basic troubleshooting.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and school requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Active Alabama K-6 AND 6-12 Special Education Teaching Certificate.
- Ability to clear a required background check.
- Ability to work collaboratively to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to receiving regular coaching from administrators.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with the middle school age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with an online learning platform.
