Allegheny Health Network is hiring a casual Medical Assistant for the AHN Cancer Institute in Wexford. You will be a key member of the health care team, working under provider direction to coordinate patient examinations, treatment, and health care planning, while supporting overall office operations.
What You'll Do
- Assist in coordinating patient care using a team-based approach under the supervision of the health care provider.
- Prepare and room patients according to standardized clinical workflows.
- Accurately obtain patient vital signs, document patient history, tobacco use, and medication screening.
- May assist in administering depression screening tools.
- Complete annual wellness visit screenings.
- Review, update, and screen the medication list in the Electronic Health Record.
- Review social history with patients and update their record.
- If applicable, pend or 'cue up' orders for required age-appropriate screenings, prescriptions, refills, or other orders based on AHN approved protocols.
- Perform back office testing following approved AHN protocols and policies.
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
- May serve as a scribe with additional training.
- Provide patient follow-up at designated intervals via their preferred method (telephone, electronic, written) per provider instructions.
- Notify patients of test results under the provider's direction in a timely manner.
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visits.
- Ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies.
- Clean and sterilize instruments per established AHN policy and manufacturer guidelines.
- Accurately perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned.
- Administer and accurately document medications in accordance with policy and safe practice.
- Document accurately in the Electronic Health Record according to established standards and workflows.
- Accurately perform clerical office functions and other assigned duties.
- May require floating or travel between physician office locations.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR one year of Medical Assistant experience OR one year in a direct patient care role, including taking vital signs.
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Employees who have graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR have proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
- Accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA).
