Role Overview
This position supports the Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme by ensuring clinical integrity across assessments. The Medical Advisor will evaluate medical evidence, conduct clinical reviews when necessary, and provide authoritative input to determine the permanence and severity of applicants’ conditions. The role plays a key part in upholding clinical standards and delivering fair, evidence-based outcomes for individuals affected by Troubles-related incidents in Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay current with the TPDPS Assessment Guide and Clinical Governance protocols
- Assess applicant cases through direct consultation or evidence review to determine disablement levels
- Conduct weekly audits of clinical reports against established governance criteria
- Deliver clear, impartial feedback to clinical teams in writing and during meetings
- Coach and guide clinical assessors and auditors to improve consistency and quality
- Meet productivity and quality benchmarks set by the scheme
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions across TPDPS functions
- Support resolution of complex or escalated clinical queries
- Perform clinical evaluations when required
- Maintain GMC registration, complete mandatory training, and document ongoing professional development
- Stay updated on clinical standards as defined by senior medical leadership
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council, without restrictions, and have at least two years of post-registration experience. A background in mental health or psychiatry is essential. The role demands strong analytical abilities, proficiency with MS Office (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and experience in clinical audit, quality assurance, or impartial review processes.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work efficiently under time constraints, communicate effectively with diverse individuals, and produce clear, concise reports using digital systems. Familiarity with bespoke IT platforms is expected.

Work and Development
The role operates locally in London, with working hours between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. A minimum of 30 hours per week is required, including a six-week full-time training commitment.
