Ballotpedia, a mission-driven organization dedicated to providing accurate and unbiased information about politics and elections, is hiring a Law Team Staff Writer. This full-time, remote role focuses on election policy, requiring you to neutrally present facts and news updates that matter to voters.
What You'll Do
- Conduct original research and analysis on election policy topics.
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of election administration policies across all 50 states.
- Monitor breaking news daily and make timely updates to on-site articles.
- Identify opportunities to expand Ballotpedia's coverage through new articles and analysis.
- Build and manage assigned articles in line with Ballotpedia's writing guidelines.
- Respond to news by quickly developing new articles as needed.
- Contribute to the publication of Ballotpedia's newsletter products.
- Use and generate complex procedure checklist documentation to perform key tasks.
- Ensure the team's managing editor is aware of project progress.
- Learn and master Ballotpedia's taxonomy of bias.
- Interact with co-workers, customers, and the media in a professional, helpful, and pleasant manner.

- Professional or academic writing or legislative research experience.
- Experience using spreadsheets to manage large quantities of data.

Team & Environment
You will be part of the Law Team and report directly to the team's managing editor.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $42,500-$44,000
- Unlimited vacation and flexibility in scheduling (BP Flex).
- Annual benefits stipend equivalent to $8,000, usable for health, vision, dental insurance, retirement accounts, etc., or added to salary if benefits are not elected.
Work Mode
This is a 100% remote position. You can work from your home location.
Ballotpedia participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
