EMD Serono is looking for a Laboratory Supervisor to lead daily operations within our molecular lab. You will supervise two groups focused on Sanger sequencing and novel techniques like targeted Next Generation Sequencing (tNGS), ensuring compliance and driving process improvements.
What You'll Do
- Document scientific observations and coordinate all activities for day-to-day laboratory operations.
- Periodically evaluate laboratory procedures, system controls, and technical documentation (SOPs, batch records) to ensure compliance.
- Serve as Supervisory team lead for two groups of assay families, managing the use and maintenance of complex scientific equipment, instrumentation, and computer systems.
- Lead site visits, complete client requests, address audit findings, and serve as a point of contact for safety walkthroughs.
- Provide direct supervision to Associate Scientists and/or Laboratory Technicians, including setting goals, conducting one-on-one discussions, managing development plans, addressing personnel issues, hiring, and performance reviews.
- Participate in division-wide initiatives including Quality systems improvements, SOP revisions, Lean projects, and present lab-specific KPIs to site leadership weekly.
- Act as a point of contact for departmental training, ensuring training modules and matrices are up to date.
- Work with R&D teams for tNGS assay transfer and operational readiness, and liaise with product managers for tNGS Blazar™ assay transfer.
- Act as the study management/responsible person on the release of test results in a GMP study when necessary.
- Liaise with Quality Assurance and cross-functional departments to close events and corrective actions identified during GxP laboratory testing.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in Biotechnology or a related field.
- Two (2) years of work experience as a team lead in a molecular laboratory department.
- Two (2) years of experience managing the use and maintenance of scientific equipment (including automated robots and instrumentation) and computer systems, ensuring they are calibrated/validated and part 11 compliant.
- Two (2) years of experience writing SOPs utilizing scientific writing skills, deviation/investigation writing, and documenting scientific observations.
- Two (2) years of work experience demonstrating knowledge of compliance of studies under the principles of GXP.
- Two (2) years of experience training peers and leading a team in a Molecular Lab department.
- Two (2) years of experience participating in division-wide initiatives including process improvement projects.
- Two (2) years of experience tracking and managing reagents and materials for the Blazar™ assay method.
- Two (2) years of experience working with novel technologies such as the targeted NGS Blazar™ assay using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis methods.
