Lead financial strategy and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial clients, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and forward-looking financial insights. This role is central to maintaining financial integrity while guiding clients through growth, compliance, and operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, fixed asset records, payroll documentation, and other core accounting deliverables for assigned clients.
- Advise clients on accounting practices, tax obligations, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance, covering areas such as accounts payable/receivable, sales tax, and business licensing.
- Supervise the quality and accuracy of work performed by accounting staff, offering constructive feedback and supporting professional development.
- Research and analyze complex accounting and tax issues to ensure adherence to standards and provide reliable guidance across engagements.
- Coordinate the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, payroll, and sales tax filings, ensuring timely submission.
- Monitor client billing, accounts payable, and ACH processing as needed to maintain smooth financial operations.
- Interpret financial data to identify trends, generate reports, and support strategic decision-making for client leadership teams.
- Maintain meticulous time tracking by client and project to support accurate billing and resource planning.
- Develop and refine internal processes, controls, and systems to uphold reporting accuracy and meet compliance deadlines consistently.
- Lead special initiatives such as budgeting, forecasting, cash flow modeling, internal control assessments, and tax planning strategies.
- Oversee the day-to-day financial activities of client engagements, ensuring timely execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Track and manage all client-related deadlines, including tax filings, financial reporting cycles, and project milestones.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory controller role, with at least 8 years of progressive experience in accounting.
- Proven expertise in financial reporting, month-end close procedures, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance.
- Ability to lead teams, manage client relationships, and communicate financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on delivering actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
- Comfort working in fast-paced environments with multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Experience leveraging cloud-based accounting tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with adaptability to evolving client needs.
Preferred Background
- CPA license strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a public accounting or CPA firm setting is advantageous.
- Experience serving nonprofit organizations is a plus.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting platforms is highly valued.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in Kansas City, MO. Remote and flexible arrangements are available for candidates within a 50-mile radius of the metro area, or those willing to relocate.
