About the Role
The intern will work on policy-related projects under supervision, contributing to research, legislative tracking, and strategic communications while gaining experience in public interest advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on state and local policy issues
- Monitor and summarize legislative developments
- Support the development of policy briefs and reports
- Assist in drafting correspondence and public comments
- Engage with community stakeholders to gather input
- Analyze proposed laws for potential civil rights impacts
- Help organize outreach events and forums
- Track regulatory changes affecting marginalized communities
- Compile data to support advocacy campaigns
- Support coalition-building with partner organizations
- Draft summaries of hearings and government proceedings
- Review court decisions related to civil liberties
- Assist in preparing testimony for legislative hearings
- Contribute to communications materials for public education
- Maintain databases of policy-related information
- Participate in strategy meetings with the advocacy team
- Identify emerging threats to equity and justice
- Support efforts to advance systemic reform
- Help evaluate the impact of existing policies
- Assist in developing recommendations for policy improvements
- Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives as needed
