Hematology Field Medical Director – Non-MD
Role Overview
This field-based position supports Pfizer’s medical mission in malignant hematology across Texas, operating remotely with frequent regional and national travel. The role focuses on advancing scientific exchange, supporting clinical research, and delivering accurate, compliant medical information to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will combine deep therapeutic knowledge with strong communication skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement medical strategies within the assigned territory, aligning with broader Medical Affairs objectives
- Engage with key healthcare providers, academic centers, and research sites to support clinical trial recruitment and investigator-sponsored research
- Deliver scientifically accurate, approved content on Pfizer’s hematology assets and disease-state education
- Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries using compliant, evidence-based approaches
- Identify and collaborate with clinical sites serving underrepresented patient populations
- Stay current with emerging data from medical congresses, publications, and regulatory developments
- Support trial site selection in partnership with Oncology R&D and Global Product Development teams
- Share insights from field interactions to inform medical planning and content development
- Represent Medical Affairs with professional societies and patient advocacy groups as appropriate
- Participate in cross-functional committees and contribute to asset-level medical strategy
- Mentor colleagues and support onboarding and training initiatives
- Utilize digital tools to enhance medical engagement and record interactions in compliance systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a health science discipline
- Advanced degree with significant experience: PharmD/PhD (5+ years), MBA/MSc (7+ years), or BA/BSc (8+ years)
- Proven expertise in malignant hematology recognized by peers and external partners
- Current residence in Texas, preferably Houston
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote, matrixed environment
- Strong judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in regulated environments with adherence to compliance standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Willingness and ability to travel 60–80% of the time, including occasional weekends and flights
- Ability to operate a company vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree such as PharmD, PhD, DNP, or equivalent
- Clinical or research background in hematology-oncology
- Established network of healthcare providers in Texas
- Prior field medical experience
- Leadership in cross-functional collaboration and team development
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and foster alignment across stakeholders
- Commitment to continuous learning, self-awareness, and professional growth
Work Environment
This is a hybrid, field-based role with primary operations across Texas. While remote, the candidate must be based in the state, ideally near Houston, and maintain flexibility for frequent travel. The position requires adaptability to changing priorities and readiness to adopt new digital platforms for medical engagement.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range: $176,600 – $294,300. Eligible for a performance bonus (target 20% of base salary) and participation in a share-based long-term incentive program. Comprehensive benefits include 401(k) with company match, retirement savings contribution, health coverage (medical, dental, vision, prescription), paid time off, caregiver and parental leave, and support for life milestones. Relocation assistance may be available based on eligibility.
