Nevoya is hiring a Head of Transportation, Dallas

About the Role

Nevoya is hiring a Head of Transportation to serve as the operational backbone of our growing carrier. You will own the dispatch team, the driver workforce, and the daily planning engine that keeps freight moving on time. This is a high-ownership role managing complexity and building systems to scale our zero-emissions logistics operation.

What You'll Do

  • Directly lead and develop a team of dispatchers and load planners, setting expectations and managing performance.
  • Build and enforce dispatch protocols for load assignment, communication, and exception handling.
  • Own the daily ops board, ensuring all loads are covered and the team responds proactively to changes.
  • Triage and resolve operational escalations like missed pick-ups, late deliveries, and equipment issues.
  • Establish clear shift handoff standards to prevent gaps in coverage.
  • Use Nevoya's TMS as the single source of truth, championing adoption and enforcing data hygiene.
  • Own the weekly and daily load planning process, matching driver availability, HOS constraints, and customer windows.
  • Anticipate and manage schedule disruptions with ready contingency plans.
  • Develop and maintain driver schedules balancing utilization, compliance, and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate with sales and customer success to ensure freight commitments are operationally feasible.
  • Identify and eliminate recurring operational bottlenecks.
  • Build planning cadences and tools that allow the team to look ahead, not just manage the day.
  • Serve as the operational leader for all CDL drivers, setting performance expectations and managing conduct.
  • Track and actively manage driver productivity metrics like miles per day and on-time percentage.
  • Lead structured driver performance conversations, recognizing top performers and addressing underperformance.
  • Manage driver onboarding from qualification file review to first-week check-ins.
  • Partner with HR on driver retention, compensation, and corrective action processes.
  • Be accessible to drivers and build a culture where drivers feel heard and supported.
  • Coach dispatchers to proactively monitor HOS and ELD data to catch potential violations.
  • Ensure the team keeps driver qualification files, drug program tracking, and inspection records current.
  • Hold dispatchers accountable for addressing unsafe driver behaviors in the moment.
  • Make sure incident and accident response is handled correctly with proper documentation and escalation.
  • Build a dispatch culture where safety is a shared standard, not a compliance checkbox.
  • Review safety performance data regularly to coach the team and drive continuous improvement.
  • Own on-time performance as an operational KPI, track it daily, and drive improvement.
  • Serve as the operational partner to customer success, providing real-time status and root-cause analysis.
  • Ensure dispatchers treat proactive customer communication as part of the job.
  • Conduct post-failure reviews on service misses and translate findings into process changes.
  • Build visibility for customers into the operation through real-time tracking and accurate ETAs.
  • Represent the operational perspective in customer escalations with a credible, solution-oriented approach.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years in transportation operations with significant carrier-side experience.
  • Proven track record managing a dispatch team (5+ years of experience leading teams).
  • Direct CDL driver management experience including hiring, coaching, and retention.
  • Deep knowledge of DOT/FMCSA compliance: HOS, driver qualification, drug and alcohol program, and ELD requirements.
  • Experience in truckload operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage operational planning in a dynamic environment with schedule changes and competing priorities.

Nice to Have

  • Drayage or port experience.
  • Experience with electric vehicle fleet operations or energy-aware logistics planning.
  • Familiarity with modern TMS platforms like Samsara, McLeod, MercuryGate, or PortPro.
  • Prior experience with California drayage or port/intermodal operations.
  • Background managing unionized driver workforces.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
