Washington University in St Louis is hiring a Grant Specialist I (Remote) - Genetics

This role supports faculty and research staff in the genetics field by managing key aspects of sponsored project administration, primarily during the pre-award phase. The specialist ensures proposals are developed and submitted in alignment with agency and university requirements, handling tasks from budget creation to final submission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate grant proposals in collaboration with principal investigators and administrative teams
  • Develop budgets, analyze funding requirements, and provide justification narratives
  • Collect and verify compliance documentation, including biosketches, protocols, and institutional approvals
  • Act as a central contact between faculty, department administrators, and research support offices
  • Submit proposals through required systems and ensure all signatures and approvals are obtained
  • Maintain accurate records of submissions, awards, and rejections in internal databases
  • Support post-award processes including reporting, budget revisions, and account transfers
  • Coordinate subaward setup and assist with contract implementation
  • Monitor reporting deadlines and support annual progress submissions
  • Provide guidance on allowable expenses and support financial oversight for active grants

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. One year of relevant experience in research administration or a related field is expected. Familiarity with federal research regulations and institutional processes is essential.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office is necessary. Experience with Workday, Research Management System (RMS), and SUBS system is preferred. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are critical for success in this role.

Work Environment

This is a remote position with potential for occasional travel to training sessions or conferences. The role requires close coordination with internal teams and external sponsors, emphasizing accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
