Ciena is looking for a Government Relations Intern for Spring 2026 to provide research and administrative support for our global government relations activities, with a focus on the United States. You will shadow the Vice President, contribute to positioning Ciena as a trusted advisor, and gain firsthand experience in public policy strategy.
What You'll Do
- Conduct written research and analysis on the status of public policy initiatives, government officials, and industry reactions.
- Draft talking points on Ciena's positions on public policy issues.
- Draft presentations to persuade or educate public policymakers on policy impacts.
- Perform day-to-day note-taking, monitor trade press, track deliverables, and assist with scheduling.
What We're Looking For
- Real intellectual curiosity about government, politics, public policy, and/or the telecommunications industry.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively to convey desired end-states and estimate project status.
Nice to Have
- Natural responsiveness and willingness to ask questions when project instructions are ambiguous.
- Ability to connect with colleagues and achieve outcomes despite a remote working environment.
- Willingness to spend the occasional late night going down rabbit holes to better understand a topic.
Team & Environment
You will be reporting directly to the Vice President of Government Relations, shadowing them in meetings and contributing to team strategy.
