As a Fuel Performance Engineer, you will lead analytical efforts to evaluate both existing and emerging fuel designs for advanced reactor systems. Your work will ensure fuel integrity under normal and off-normal operating scenarios, directly supporting the development of safe, high-performance energy solutions.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate fuel behavior under a range of operational and postulated transient conditions using multi-physics modeling and simulation.
- Develop and refine analysis methods to strengthen confidence in fuel design, including creating custom tools when necessary.
- Verify and validate simulation software to ensure accuracy and reliability in performance predictions.
- Support fuel testing initiatives by providing analytical insights and interpreting experimental results.
- Work closely with reactor design, fuel fabrication, and regulatory teams to deliver technically sound feedback.
- Document analyses and findings through clear, well-structured technical reports using modern documentation practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least three years of relevant experience.
- Proven background in multi-physics performance analysis of engineered systems.
- Hands-on experience with finite element analysis tools such as Ansys or Abaqus.
- Experience analyzing material behavior under thermal and mechanical stress.
- Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language like Python or C++.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior work in nuclear fuel performance modeling and simulation.
- Knowledge of metallic fuel systems and their performance characteristics.
- Familiarity with specialized fuel analysis codes such as BISON or LIFE-METAL.
- Strong experience in material selection and structural analysis for extreme environments.
- Advanced fluency in Python for automation, data analysis, and tool development.
