Nucor is looking for a Fitter to join our team in Portland, TN. In this role, you will perform various fit up and tacking operations on structural assemblies, interpret weld symbols, and follow weld procedures, contributing to our culture built on safety, teamwork, and continuous innovation.
What You'll Do
- Perform various fit up and tacking operations on a variety of structural assemblies.
- Interpret weld symbols and follow weld procedures.
- Add stiffeners, brackets, face plates, etc. using prints for location prior to finish welding.
- Use clamps, jigs, tape, square, arc air gouger, cutting torch and plasma as required using judgment to prevent warping and misalignment.
- Operate jib crane.
- Maintain necessary records.
- Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain quality standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with reading drawings, prints, and proficient with tape measure and micrometer.
- Must currently possess or pass AWS within 90 days.
Nice to Have
- At least 1-year prior experience in fabrication.
