Cape Environmental Management Inc (CAPE) is hiring an Environmental Project Scientist/Engineer/Geologist to join our technical team in Honolulu. In this role, you will support senior-level technical staff and project managers in planning and implementing a variety of environmental projects throughout Hawaii, other Pacific islands, and the US west coast.
What You'll Do
- Prepare technical planning documents, including work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality control plans, and safety plans.
- Oversee and directly participate in field operations such as remediation activities, environmental monitoring, sample collection, and waste management.
- Support quality control and site safety duties on projects.
- Prepare technical reports and memorandums summarizing field activities, analytical results, and conclusions.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and external parties to achieve project goals.
- Actively participate in CAPE’s performance management process.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in environmental remediation, including technical report writing and field activities.
- Professional licensing as required for the position or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire (EIT, PE, GIT, PG).
- Current OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER and annual 8hr refresher training.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and take responsibility for multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with exceptional attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check for badging to access DOD installations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of fieldwork, including wearing respiratory protection, standing or walking on uneven terrain, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and best practices (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, Hawaii TGM).
- Experience working with NAVFAC, USACE, or other DOD agencies.
- Experience serving in a quality control and/or safety role.
- Experience with GPS data collection and processing (e.g., Trimble, Field Maps).
- Industry standard trainings, such as: 8hr HAZWOPER Supervisor, OSHA 30hr Construction, Navy/USACE Construction Quality Manager, RCRA HAZWASTE, and DOT HAZMAT.
