What You'll Do
Build and lead a new, globally distributed engineering team focused on creating GitLab's next-generation Continuous Deployment platform. Establish team practices, mentor engineers, and cultivate a culture where ownership, growth, and high performance are central. You'll guide hiring efforts to bring on foundational team members who thrive in autonomous, accountable environments.
Collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional engineering groups to define roadmaps, make strategic architectural choices, and deliver reliable, scalable deployment systems. Champion AI integration across workflows, encouraging engineers to adopt AI tools that enhance productivity and innovation. Maintain a steady delivery pace by tracking milestones, identifying risks early, and resolving impediments proactively.
Participate in incident management on-call rotations to support system reliability and uphold availability standards. Promote engineering excellence across security, performance, and maintainability while advancing a culture rooted in feedback, coaching, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading high-performing software engineering teams with technical depth in distributed systems and workflow orchestration.
- Background in continuous delivery, deployment automation, or release orchestration at scale.
- Understanding of Kubernetes, GitOps, and progressive delivery methods such as blue/green and canary deployments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and policy-based governance in enterprise systems.
- Ability to lead in early-stage team environments—defining processes, shaping culture, and hiring key contributors.
- Strong communication skills with a preference for asynchronous, transparent collaboration.
- Track record of building psychologically safe, inclusive teams where accountability and innovation coexist.

- Experience operating effectively in remote-first, globally distributed organizations.
