This role is central to shaping the technical direction and execution of software engineering initiatives within a fast-growing healthcare technology organization. The Director of Software Engineering will lead a team of skilled engineers, drive innovation in product development, and ensure the delivery of robust, secure, and compliant software solutions. This position requires a balance of deep technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a strong understanding of healthcare industry challenges and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities
- Define and execute strategic software architecture that supports business and customer needs in healthcare technology.
- Lead the development and deployment of secure, scalable software systems using modern engineering practices.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from planning through deployment and maintenance.
- Collaborate with product management to establish project requirements and meet delivery timelines.
- Align engineering initiatives with organizational priorities to deliver high-impact solutions.
- Communicate engineering progress, performance, and resource needs to senior leadership.
- Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing team of software engineers.
- Mentor engineers, guide career development, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, healthcare regulations, and development methodologies.
- Encourage experimentation with new technologies to enhance healthcare applications.
- Lead process improvements to increase software quality, development speed, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure software complies with healthcare standards including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2, FedRAMP, and FDA guidelines.
- Champion data security initiatives, including encryption and cybersecurity best practices for sensitive health data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least 12 years of software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership or management roles, preferably in healthcare technology.
- Demonstrated success leading teams to deliver complex, large-scale healthcare software solutions.
- Strong technical background in AWS cloud platforms, backend systems, databases, and frontend development.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations and data privacy laws such as HIPAA and HITECH.
- Experience applying Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban in software development environments.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems and explain them clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with a focus on team development and performance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for cross-functional collaboration.
