Role Overview
As Vice President of Engineering, you will shape the technical direction and leadership of a growing engineering organization dedicated to advancing tools that empower nonprofit success. You'll oversee the development and performance of core platforms handling fundraising and secure payment processing, ensuring they are scalable, compliant, and resilient.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and expand an engineering team responsible for mission-critical fundraising and payments infrastructure, fostering a culture of ownership and high performance
- Drive technical execution across a multi-stack environment including PHP, .NET Core, and React, deployed on AWS, with an emphasis on speed, stability, and security
- Ensure operational rigor in payment systems, maintaining uptime, transaction integrity, and full adherence to PCI-DSS standards
- Advance the integration of AI into product development, building intelligent features such as predictive donor insights, automated workflows, and co-pilot experiences
- Lead the adoption of AI-powered development tools across engineering teams, measuring improvements in code quality and team productivity
- Encourage a mindset of reinvention—pushing teams beyond incremental progress to deliver transformative solutions
- Collaborate with product leaders to define roadmaps that balance innovation with platform reliability and compliance
- Oversee secure handling of donor financial data, ensuring robust data protection and privacy practices
- Mentor engineering managers and senior developers, cultivating a culture of accountability, growth, and shared excellence
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to deliver software rapidly without compromising quality or security
- Step in directly when needed—whether troubleshooting live issues, guiding architecture, or unblocking key initiatives
Qualifications
- 15+ years in software engineering, with at least a decade in leadership roles, including scaling teams during periods of rapid growth
- Experience managing engineering organizations of 30+ engineers across multiple domains
- Background in payment systems, donation platforms, or financial transaction infrastructure, with knowledge of PCI compliance
- Proven engagement with AI in software development, including tooling adoption and impact measurement
- Strong technical foundation in PHP, .NET Core, React, and AWS cloud services
- Experience leading complex integrations and maintaining high-availability systems
- Leadership approach that blends high standards with hands-on collaboration
- Ability to align technical strategy with business goals through close partnership with product teams
- Familiarity with DevOps and continuous delivery in regulated environments
- Clear, direct communicator capable of influencing technical and executive stakeholders
Technology Environment
PHP, React, .NET Core, AWS, PCI-DSS compliance, DevOps pipelines, AI coding assistants (including Cursor and Claude Code), and AI-powered code review systems.
