Warner Bros. Discovery, home to Avalanche (a Warner Bros. Games studio), is seeking a Director of Rights & Clearance. Reporting to the Vice President Legal, you will oversee the team responsible for ensuring CNN programming containing third-party content is cleared for global exploitation. You will lead the team's strategic direction and day-to-day operations.
What You'll Do
- Lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the international Rights & Clearances team operating across multiple time zones.
- Advise the VP Legal on all budget matters for the department, including team travel and compensation.
- Partner with the Business Affairs Department to lead the review process, tracking all third-party production deliverables for CNN Original Series and CNN Films.
- Supervise the work of other team members and manage the relationship between the Rights & Clearances and Business Affairs teams.
- Serve as the sole point of contact for the CNN Tribute Award Show, managing all negotiations for talent presenter/performer agreements and third-party materials.
- Analyze information, summarize terms and restrictions for programming and distribution, and draft guidance memos for editorial staff.
- Acquire third-party content (video, photos, audio) for all CNN networks and platforms worldwide.
- Negotiate, review, and draft related license agreements and other content agreements.
- Identify potential copyright and other rights issues in third-party agreements and releases.
- Provide expert advice and analysis on rights and clearances matters.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading a rights, clearances, or legal operations team.
- Deep expertise in negotiating and drafting content license agreements.
- Strong knowledge of copyright law and rights analysis for media production.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and cross-departmental relationships.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Experience advising on departmental budget and resource planning.
