What You'll Do
Lead the design and execution of all human resources initiatives, with a strong focus on payroll accuracy, benefits administration, and compliance across multiple states. You'll ensure that HR systems are scalable, data-driven, and aligned with the company’s growth trajectory. From managing vendor relationships to evaluating when to insource key functions, you’ll balance cost, efficiency, and employee experience.
Own the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring timely and compliant delivery across jurisdictions. You’ll also lead benefits strategy, making data-informed adjustments to improve satisfaction and retention while managing costs. This role requires regular evaluation of HRIS and payroll platforms, with responsibility for implementing upgrades that enhance functionality and user experience.
Develop and refine HR policies that support a remote workforce, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and company values. Partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and change management initiatives. You’ll also guide managers on performance issues, conduct investigations when necessary, and help shape a culture rooted in accountability, growth, and resilience.
Establish metrics to track HR effectiveness and contribute to long-term strategic goals. You’ll lead compensation planning, including market analysis and pay band development, and support training and development programs. As a trusted advisor, you’ll maintain open communication channels through feedback systems, surveys, and regular engagement.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of advancing responsibility in HR leadership roles
- Proven, hands-on experience managing multi-state payroll and benefits programs
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment regulations
- Ability to operate strategically while diving into operational details
- Demonstrated success rebuilding or fixing HR systems to support scale
- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive employee matters
- Track record of improving compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in HR operations
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to engage directly in day-to-day tasks as needed
- Experience managing third-party vendors such as PEOs, brokers, and HR technology providers
Technical Stack
Familiarity with payroll processing systems, HRIS platforms, benefits administration software, PEO integrations, and compliance tracking tools is essential. You should be comfortable evaluating and optimizing technology to meet evolving business needs.
