This role is central to shaping the organization's AI-driven future by operationalizing cutting-edge AI technologies across engineering teams. The Director will lead the strategy, implementation, and governance of AI systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, ethical, and aligned with business objectives. This includes building the AI Operations Center of Excellence, driving AI adoption in software development, establishing model lifecycle standards, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. The position requires a unique blend of technical depth, leadership acumen, and strategic vision to transform how technology is built and delivered across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CTO to define and execute the AI program roadmap, aligning technical initiatives with business goals and strategic priorities.
- Found and lead the AI Operations Center of Excellence, setting standards for model development, deployment, monitoring, and governance across teams.
- Provide executive-level visibility into AI initiatives by tracking progress, risks, and return on investment across the organization.
- Define and monitor KPIs related to AI operational maturity, model performance, and business outcomes to guide decision-making.
- Develop and enforce a comprehensive AI governance framework, including responsible AI practices and model risk controls.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and AI regulations by working closely with legal, security, and privacy teams.
- Evaluate and manage relationships with AI platform providers, cloud services, and third-party model vendors, including contract negotiations.
- Lead the modernization of the software development lifecycle to integrate AI capabilities, transforming engineering practices across product teams.
- Promote ethical AI use through training, awareness, and organizational best practices.
- Identify emerging trends in the AI landscape to inform strategic planning and maintain competitive advantage.
- Foster a culture of experimentation, accountability, and continuous improvement within engineering teams.
- Partner with HR and Learning & Development to build talent development and upskilling programs in AI.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive technology experience, including at least 2 years in AI operations, platform engineering, or similar technical leadership roles.
- Proven experience deploying AI systems from prototype to production at scale.
- Solid understanding of generative AI technologies and prompt engineering techniques, with hands-on experience in production environments.
- Experience creating and implementing AI governance, model risk management, or responsible AI programs.
- Strong ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for executive audiences.
