Position OverviewAs Country Director, you will lead the organization’s humanitarian and recovery initiatives in Burkina Faso, guiding a diverse team across multiple operational sites. You are responsible for the strategic direction, management, and performance of all programs, ensuring alignment with global standards and local needs in a complex, evolving security context.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership by fostering collaboration, transparency, and professional growth across national and international teams.
- Build and sustain strategic relationships with government institutions, donor agencies, UN bodies, regional partners, and civil society organizations to strengthen program impact and visibility.
- Represent the organization in national and regional coordination forums, advocating for effective humanitarian response and positioning the organization as a trusted partner.
- Ensure all programming is designed with accountability, monitoring, and evaluation at its core, and that staff and partners are equipped to deliver high-quality services.
- Lead proposal development and resource mobilization efforts, with a focus on donor diversification and compliance with organizational and international standards.
- Monitor political, security, and operational developments to identify risks and opportunities, adapting strategies to maintain program continuity and staff safety.
- Oversee comprehensive security management, including emergency preparedness, evacuation planning, and real-time response coordination in collaboration with regional safety leadership.
- Ensure financial integrity through rigorous budget oversight, compliance with donor regulations, and efficient use of resources across grants and operational units.
- Support human resources, supply chain, and finance functions to uphold organizational policies and promote a culture of accountability and inclusion.
- Model ethical leadership by upholding humanitarian principles and promoting a respectful, empowering workplace aligned with global conduct standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. A minimum of ten years in international development or humanitarian work is required, with proven leadership in multi-sector, multi-site operations in unstable environments. Experience as a country-level director is essential.
Fluency in both French and English is mandatory. You must have a strong track record in security risk management, financial oversight, and donor engagement—particularly with European and international funding bodies. Familiarity with the socio-political landscape of the Central Sahel region is critical.
Additional assets include experience in conflict-affected or post-disaster settings, knowledge of West Africa or the organization’s operations, and proficiency in Box. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability under pressure, and the ability to lead multicultural teams are essential.
Work Environment and Culture
This role is based in Burkina Faso with regular travel across designated field locations and the West and Central Africa region.
