AECOM is seeking a Construction and Compliance Advisor to support a major hyperscaler's long-haul fiber construction projects across the West Region. You will act as an independent field representative, responsible for daily observation, documentation, and verification of compliance with engineering standards, construction specifications, and safety requirements. This role requires travel, sometimes overnight, to project sites.
What You'll Do
- Advise the Project Team on overall progress, potential challenges, and solutions related to civil construction and fiber cable installation.
- Conduct daily site visits to verify construction activities meet required standards.
- Monitor project progress and document any above- or below-grade facility damage.
- Escalate critical issues using provided escalation forms.
- Submit daily Field Reports summarizing all inspection activities and recorded information.
- Observe conduit installation, including construction methods, weekly run rates, conduit location/depth, and manhole/handhole compliance with design.
- Monitor installation of fiber optic cable, ensuring cable type matches design, proper installation methods, slack loop placement, and correct cable labeling.
- Observe fiber splicing activities, verifying splice completion, tray layout, and enclosure labeling.
- Conduct site visits during ILA (Inline Amplifier) construction phases.
- Perform pass/fail inspections covering site conditions, shelter/equipment installation, grounding, cable routing, and system testing.
- Meet all OSHA and AHJ requirements while onsite and report observed safety non-compliance.
- Use hyperscaler-provided GIS tools and inspection forms for accurate documentation and reporting.
What We're Looking For
- A High School Diploma with 2+ years of relevant experience in underground and/or telecommunications construction.
- OR a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field with 6 months of experience (internship, summer job) related to construction, construction inspection, or telecommunications engineering.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle check.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes overnight.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and variable conditions including heat, dust, chemicals, moisture, and dryness.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, and load equipment weighing up to 50lbs with assistance.
- Ability to perform repetitive bending & stooping, power gripping/squeezing to perform maintenance tasks and operate equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protection, and face shield.
Nice to Have
- Previous construction experience specifically related to telecommunication projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- OSHA 30 or 40 hour Certifications.

Work Mode
This is an onsite role requiring travel to project sites across the assigned West Region.
