At Owens & Minor, we empower our customers to advance healthcare. We are looking for a Collections Representative to join our team, focusing on resolving unpaid claims by following up with insurance companies. You will research overdue account balances, coordinate collection activities, and ensure compliance with collection practices.
What You'll Do
- Research overdue account balances that are fully or partially unpaid and follow up by mail and/or phone to insurance carriers or customers on delinquent payments.
- Review unpaid and underpaid claims and resubmit or appeal as necessary.
- Verify payment information adjustments to supervisor.
- Coordinate collection activities for delinquent accounts by preparing information for external collection agencies or attorneys.
- Comply with the Fair Debt Collector Practices Act (FDCPA).
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding account status.
- Research customer’s accounts thoroughly and document appropriately.
- Resolve discrepancies and prepare adjustments and refunds as necessary.
- Ensure all information regarding collection activity of account is entered accurately into the billing system.
- Bring recurring issues to the attention of the department supervisor.
- Initiate payments and resubmit bills as necessary.
- Pursue patient for payment obligations when insurance defaults as permitted by law or contractual relationships.
- Report to work punctually at assigned starting time and have reliable, consistent attendance.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma.
- One year of related experience.

- Basic skills in Word and Excel.
- English proficiency (reading, writing, verbal).
- Basic level mathematical proficiency, with a strong ability to understand, interpret and develop spreadsheet data.
