Laborup is hiring a CNC Machinist to join our team. You will set up and operate large-capacity CNC mills in a custom job shop environment, owning work end-to-end from complex setups to final inspection. You will work on high-mix, low-volume, one-off, and small-batch projects for aerospace, defense, and commercial space clients.
What You'll Do
- Independently set up and run large-capacity 3-axis CNC mills, including large format double-column machines and indexable heads.
- Run work from raw plate to finished part—setup, run, troubleshoot, inspect, and document.
- Read and interpret complex technical drawings and job travelers. Fluently read G-code and M-code to make critical edits and adjustments directly at the machine controller.
- Build effective workholding strategies, including complex magnet setups. Safely operate forklifts and remote overhead cranes to maneuver heavy plates and massive workpieces.
- Hold tight tolerances ranging from +/- .005 down to +/- .0002. Perform rigorous self-inspections at the machine using precision manual tools.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance, calculate proper speeds and feeds for varied materials, and troubleshoot dimensional or tooling issues on the fly.
What We're Looking For
- Experience independently setting up and running large-capacity CNC mills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and job travelers.
- Fluency in reading G-code and M-code to make edits at the machine controller.
- Experience building workholding strategies and operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Ability to hold tight tolerances and perform self-inspections with precision manual tools.
- Ability to conduct routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues.
