ProAssurance Group Services Corporation is hiring a Claims Specialist to provide direction and guidance throughout the life of medical professional liability claims. In this role, you'll manage claims investigation, coverage analysis, and legal expense control while supporting the Southwest Region.
What You'll Do
- Participate in review processes to evaluate liability, case value, and reserving functions to manage total claims cost.
- Ensure proper file documentation by complying with company and state requirements.
- Direct defense counsel regarding settlement values, defense tactics, and strategies per department guidelines.
- Maintain communication with supervisor, defense counsel, and clients.
- Review and approve reasonable legal expenses and fees, negotiating adjustments when appropriate.
- Participate in the selection of expert witnesses.
- Represent the company by attending trials, settlement conferences, mediations, and insured meetings.
- Recommend settlement strategies when necessary.
- Prepare reports for management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing claim information.
- Keep apprised of changes in the law and court procedures affecting claims in jurisdictions supervised.
- Participate in negotiations when appropriate.
- Perform special projects as directed by management.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum two years of experience in the legal, medical, or insurance field, with a high degree of specialized and technical competence.
- Professional liability experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proven leadership, communication, and writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management expertise.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn new computer software applications.
- Extensive travel may be required.
- Willingness and ability to be available beyond normal business hours.
- Ability to attend business functions and present a positive image of the company.
- Valid driver’s license.
