Position Overview
This role supports the management of medical professional liability claims across their full lifecycle. As a Claims Specialist, you will assess liability, oversee defense strategies, manage reserves, and ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards. The position operates remotely within the Southwest Region but requires extensive travel and occasional availability outside standard hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate claims for liability, exposure, and appropriate reserving in alignment with company protocols
- Oversee and direct defense counsel on litigation tactics, settlement parameters, and case strategy
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation for all assigned claims files
- Review and approve legal expenses, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with claim strategy
- Engage in negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions as needed
- Collaborate in the selection of expert witnesses when necessary
- Attend trials, depositions, and insured meetings to represent the organization
- Develop and recommend settlement approaches based on case analysis
- Generate reports by gathering and interpreting claims data for management review
- Stay current on legal developments and procedural changes in relevant jurisdictions
- Support special initiatives and projects as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least two years of experience in insurance, legal, or healthcare settings, with demonstrated expertise in professional liability. Strong analytical, written, and interpersonal abilities are essential. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and the capacity to learn new software are required. A valid driver’s license is mandatory due to travel demands.
An advanced degree or professional certification in a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities, and committed to maintaining accurate records and ethical standards.
