Nicklaus Children's Hospital is hiring a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to join our team. In this role, you will provide anesthetic care for pediatric patients under the direct supervision and guidance of a Pediatric Anesthesiologist. You will be responsible for the full anesthetic process, from pre-operative assessment to post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
What You'll Do
- Obtain the patient’s medical history and perform physical exams.
- Verify patient identification, procedure, informed consent, and NPO times.
- Assess the patient’s pain management needs prior to the procedure.
- Assess patient's medical history, physical exam, and age-specific needs for safe anesthesia.
- Discuss patient's needs with the supervising anesthesiologist to determine pre-anesthetic medications and anesthetic techniques.
- Write orders for pre-anesthetic medications.
- Perform pre-anesthesia machine checks and set up and organize all assigned rooms.
- Participate in Time Out and verification of patient identity, procedure, and site.
- Administer the anesthetic plan with the supervising anesthesiologist.
- Insert peripheral venous catheters, radial artery catheters, or central venous catheters under supervision.
- Perform supervised techniques for mask ventilation, tracheal intubation, extubation, and mechanical ventilation.
- Provide anesthesia care consistent with infection control and safety.
- Continuously monitor patients with various equipment and document every 5 minutes on the anesthesia record.
- Continuously adjust the level of anesthesia and respiratory support to meet patient’s needs.
- Observe skin color, blood color, and perform arterial blood gas analysis when indicated.
- Constantly monitor blood loss and urine output and record on the anesthesia record.
- Manage patient’s fluid, blood, electrolyte, and acid-base balance as discussed with the anesthesiologist.
- Maintain vigilance and immediately notify the supervising anesthesiologist of any unexpected patient reactions.
- Maintain detailed records of medications, techniques, and patient response on the anesthetic record.
- Assist in the resuscitation of critically ill, severely traumatized, or compromised patients.
- Work as a team member to provide breaks and lunches for other anesthesia personnel.
- Provide a thorough report of the patient’s condition and peri-anesthetic course to the post-anesthesia care provider.
- Provide post-anesthesia follow-up and evaluation of the patient’s response and potential complications.
- Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation post-anesthesia.
- Initiate and administer pharmacological or fluid support for cardiovascular stability if emergently required post-anesthesia.
- Evaluate patients for discharge from a post-anesthesia care area.
What We're Looking For
- Master's or Doctorate degree (DNP or DNAP) of Nurse Anesthesia accredited by the AANA Council of Accreditation.
- APRN State of Florida Licensure, maintained active and in good standing.
- National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- American Heart Association BLS, maintained active and in good standing.
- American Heart Association PALS, maintained active and in good standing.
- American Heart Association ACLS, maintained active and in good standing.
- Successful completion of Credentialing by NCH Medical Administration.
- Level II Background Check.
