About the Role

Nicklaus Children's Hospital is hiring an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Epilepsy Program EMU. In this role, your primary responsibility, in association with the Attending Physician, is the inpatient management of pediatric neurology patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). You will coordinate a team approach to treatment for epilepsy patients.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct medical rounds, oversee, implement, and document the plan of care in collaboration with other disciplines and services.
  • Write orders, monitor and alter drug therapies, and perform other procedures within your education and experience per established protocol.
  • Provide patient information and complete the hand off process to MDs using SBAR at shift change and patient reassignments.
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner of 24 hours.
  • Review all patient records prior to admission (e.g., labs, consents, advance directives, custody documentation) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in State-wide Epilepsy programs and work to identify, create and implement programs that serve as early detection for treatable neuro conditions.
  • Provide mentoring and precepting for APPs, Medical Students, and Residents; actively provide feedback and detailed descriptions of areas.
  • Ensure zero-based medication errors by efficiently and accurately ordering medication following the Five Patient Rights of Medication Administration and Medication Admin policies.
  • Provide education to patients and families on the continuing plan of care, including medications and side effects, and update them daily on the Plan of Care (POC).
  • Be accountable for all standard key metrics in the measure of Epilepsy program coordination, influence quality of care through research, and evaluate data to update databases and patient outcomes.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Valid Florida APRN License maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Program (AANP), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) PALS certification maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Level II Background Check.

Nice to Have

  • Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification.

Team & Environment

You will report to the Neurology APP Manager and coordinate within a team-focused treatment approach.
